HaTzofe (Hebrew: הצופה, The Observer) was a Hebrew language daily newspaper published in Israel. In April 2007, it was reduced to weekly publication until its closing over a year later.

According to the paper’s website, its point of view is Zionist, nationalist and religious. It claimed to be the only daily newspaper of the Israeli political right, with an emphasis on religious Zionism. The newspaper had been associated in its past to the Mizrachi movement as well as being the beacon of National Religious Party.

In the May 2003, Shlomo Ben-Tzvi purchased the newspaper and in 2004, he purchased the weekly Makor Rishon as well. On 25 April 2007, HaTzofe stopped publishing a daily edition, instead becoming a weekly insert in Makor Rishon which instead began daily operations. It printed its last edition on Friday, 26 December 2008.[1]

Yom Hamedina Newspaper 1948
The people declare the State of Israel

On November 29, 1947, the United Nations Assembly passed a resolution requiring the establishment of the State of Israel in the Land of Israel. And by virtue of our natural and historical right we declare the establishment of the State of Israel

Extremely rare “Yom Hamedina” (The Day of The State) newspaper. A celebratory newspaper produced in cooperation with all the newspaper systems in Israel and published on behalf of Ben-Gurion order as a one-time event on the declaration day of the state, 5 Iyar, 5708 (Jewish Calendar), May 14, 1948, at four o’clock in the afternoon. The title of the issue indicates the date and time and next to it the statement “Last day for foreign rule”.

The newspaper contains only two pages. The title page opens with the headline “The People Proclaim the State of Israel” and below is a detailed version of the Declaration of Independence. On the second page, announcements and updates about the IDF occupations, the fall of Gush Etzion, threats of invasion, and more.

The ceremony announcing the establishment of the State of Israel took place at Beit Dizengoff at 16 Sderot Rothschild in Tel Aviv. About eight hours before the end of the British mandate and the departure of the last British soldiers from the country. the Chairman of the People’s Administration David Ben-Gurion announced the establishment of the state, and those present at the ceremony signed the Declaration of Independence.

About the designer

Paul Kor was a born artist and author, who became world-renowned for his award-winning paintings, books, illustrations and graphic design work.

He was born to a modest Jewish family in Paris, France in 1926. His passion for the arts was clear from the time he was a small boy. His mother would take him to the Louvre, where he would sit for hours and recreate the works of the greats. After losing his father to the Holocaust at a young age, Kor took refuge in Switzerland, where he was soon recognized for his astounding artistic abilities. His talents secured him a spot at the School of Fine Arts in Geneva, making him one of the few who was able to study during wartime. He eventually returned to Paris to continue his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in 1947. The following year Kor immigrated to Israel and began developing a visual language that would later mark him the country’s most foremost graphic artist.

During the 1960s, he painted and designed banknotes, postal stamps, and prize-winning posters for state institutions. His work became so widely recognized that he was sought after by dozens of successful, international companies, including El-Al Airlines, the Elite Chocolate Company, and the Coca-Cola Company.

As Kor approached the mid-1970s, he developed an interest in children’s book publishing that sparked his transition into writing and illustrating best-selling children’s books. One of his most well known books, “Caspion the little fish,” won a certificate of merit from the Israel Museum and has since been translated into Arabic, French, German, Korean, and half a dozen other languages.

By the time of his death, Kor’s sensational artwork had earned him countless awards in Israel, Italy, France. and other countries around the world. www.paulkor.com

Special Blessing Poster in Honor of Israel’s First Independence Day Issued by Keren Hayesod,1949 Designed by the Renowned Shamir Brothers
This is the very first poster that was issued to celebrate Israel’s first Independence Day in 1949. The item is very rare and is a real Masterpiece, Issued by the Keren Hayesod and designed by the very known Shamir Brothers.

Gabriel Shamir (1909-1992) and Maxim Shamir (1910-1990) were Israeli graphic designers. They designed Israel’s official state emblems, medals, stamps, and currency notes.

Between 1930 and 1931 Gabriel worked for the Lintas advertising agency in Berlin and between 1931-1933 for Gumaelius in Stockholm. In 1934, they opened a graphic design studio in Riga, Latvia, but the following year they immigrated to Palestine. The brothers arrived during the Fifth Aliyah. They established the Shamir Brothers Studio on Rothschild Boulevard in Tel Aviv and began to design posters. In 1935, the Shamirs co-founded the Society of Hebrew Graphic Artists in Eretz Israel.

The Coat of Arms of Israel was designed by the Shamir Brothers
Because there were few Hebrew typefaces at the time, the Shamirs improvised hand-painted Hebrew letters, often into transliterated words from European languages and English. Whereas Franz Kraus, the Austrian graphic designer who arrived in Eretz Israel a year before the Shamirs, adhered to a uniform type style, the brothers sought typography that they felt expressed the subject matter.

The Shamir brothers, enthusiastic about the establishment of the Jewish state, undertook to formalize and actualize the visual symbols of Israeli sovereignty and independence. They designed the state’s emblems, medals, stamps, and currency notes, including the 1949 Israeli State Coat of Arms (an image of a menorah and olive branches). In addition, they advertised cigarettes and other consumer goods, as well as designed stamps for countries in Africa, Asia, and South America. Their posters, other advertisements, and logos from 1935 to the close of their studio in 1974—rendered for the lottery, marketing fairs, land settlement, support of the army, food rationing, anti-black-market drives, and other nationalistic efforts—express a hyped Communist attitude, but not extreme or dour as in the propaganda of Bolshevik Russia
