IDF Intelligence All-Female Observers’ Unit

Israeli Intelligence stands out as one of the world’s most successful intelligence networks, consistently preventing disasters and bringing enormous operational results. A crucial role of this intelligence web is the all-female IDF Observers unit.

On the horrific morning of October 7th, these brave young women were the first to witness what was going on. They succeeded in saving many lives – before succumbing to the enemy themselves. Fourteen of them were mercilessly murdered, and seven were abducted to Gaza.

The IDF Field Observer role demands immense skill and is one of the most challenging positions for women in the IDF. These observers possess a deep understanding of the border areas, monitoring every detail and recognizing nuances that might indicate an event. They guide forces and remotely operate weaponry through “see and shoot” systems along the border.

Without the Observers in Gaza the situation could have been much worse, and many soldiers and civilians owe them their lives. They are a source of pride for the IDF and the State of Israel. Our prayers extend for their safety and the release of all abductees. In mourning, we share the pain of the bereaved families.
