"Either Palestine...Or Hell" Vintage poster 1983 (Palestinian National Liberation Movement)

Anti Israel Posters

Anti-Israel Posters began to appear from the early 1960s to 1982, following the re-emergence of Palestinian identity after the Nakba and the establishment of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and international solidarity. This period is one stage in the history of Palestinian graphic arts, which dates back to the Mandate era when posters served as both advertising and political tools. The post-Oslo era saw posters return as advertisements while their role in conveying political messages diminished.

The study of posters is distinct due to their intersection of artistic practice and advertising industry skills. They are reproduced using techniques like off-set, lithography, and serigraphy. Despite not attaining the monetary value of traditional artworks, posters can be masterful achievements on their own, allowing for impactful dissemination. In militant and politically radicalized artistic practice, posters hold a special place as a means of creative expression aimed at popular mobilization, relying on visual composition, graphic elements, and recognizable symbols to resonate with a decipherable collective imaginary.
