In the 1960s, Israel’s government and public information offices launched nationwide campaigns promoting water conservation in response to recurring droughts and the country’s reliance on limited natural resources.

These campaigns laid the groundwork for a cultural shift: saving water wasn’t just for times of crisis—it became a daily habit. Posters and slogans filled the streets, schools, and newspapers with powerful messages like “Israel is drying up.”

Alongside technological breakthroughs such as drip irrigation and desalination, these early efforts helped shape Israel’s unique relationship with water and its global leadership in water innovation.
