Size: 27 × 22 cm (approx. 10.6 × 8.6 inches) — dimensions without frame
A rare and authentic 1950s JAFFA cardboard Sign, originally used on export crates of Israeli grapefruit. The design features the iconic blue-turquoise background, the classic Jaffa logo at the top, and a vibrant illustration of two yellow grapefruits with leaves and blossoms — a timeless graphic style that reflects the early years of the State of Israel and its historic citrus industry.
The lower section includes the original export text: “Selected Jaffa Grapefruit – Produce of Israel”, along with the period-correct treatment stamp commonly printed on agricultural export packaging of the era. The label is printed on thick cardboard, exactly as it appeared on fruit crates destined for European markets.
JAFFA is one of Israel’s most famous and enduring export brands, known worldwide since the early 20th century. Under the JAFFA name, oranges, grapefruits, and other citrus fruits were shipped globally and became a symbol of Israel’s agricultural excellence. By the 1950s, JAFFA was already a household name across Europe, and labels like this one accompanied nearly every crate leaving the ports of Jaffa or Tel Aviv.
Today, vintage JAFFA labels have become highly collectible, representing a unique blend of Israeli graphic design, agricultural history, and mid-century commercial art.
