Weight Watchers Vintage Israeli Poster 1980s David Tartakover “It’s not always funny to be fat”
David Tartakover is one of Israel’s most influential graphic designers, artists, and political activists, known for his bold and thought-provoking work. Born in 1944 in Haifa, he studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem and later continued his education in London. Since founding his own studio in 1975, Tartakover has become a defining figure in Israeli visual culture, using graphic design as a tool for social and political commentary. His work, which often incorporates historical photographs, strong typography, and collage techniques, has been exhibited in major museums worldwide, including the Israel Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He is best known for his activist posters, many of which criticize government policies and advocate for peace and social justice, making him a significant voice in Israeli public discourse. In 2002, he was awarded the Israel Prize for Design, recognizing his impact on the country’s cultural landscape. His designs, deeply rooted in Israeli identity and history, continue to inspire and provoke thought, remaining relevant in both artistic and political spheres.
