1969 Israeli Knesset Elections – “Give Her Your Vote / Strengthen Her Voice”

An original Israeli election poster from 1969, created during the national election campaign in which Golda Meir won and continued serving as Prime Minister of Israel. The poster was produced as part of the campaign of the Israeli Labor Party – Mapam (the Alignment), the dominant political force in Israel at the time.

The design reflects the visual language of late-1960s Israeli political posters: a bold orange background, large white Hebrew typography, and a central black-and-white photographic portrait of Golda Meir. The strong and direct slogan:

“Give Her Your Vote”
“Strengthen Her Voice”

captures the campaign message calling for public support of her leadership in the years following the Six-Day War.

Posters of this type were printed for street campaign use and were typically pasted on walls and public notice boards across Israeli cities. Because they were intended for temporary use, most copies disappeared shortly after the elections. According to current knowledge in the collectors’ market, this may be the only surviving copy, making it an exceptionally rare item of Israeli political history.

Who Was Golda Meir

Golda Meir (1898–1978) was one of the most influential figures in the history of Israel and among the first women in the world to serve as Prime Minister.

She was born in Kyiv in the Russian Empire and raised in the United States. In 1921 she immigrated to Palestine and joined the Zionist labor movement. Over the years she held key leadership positions in the emerging state, including Israel’s ambassador to the Soviet Union, Minister of Labor, and later Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In 1969, following the death of Levi Eshkol, she became Prime Minister and led Israel during a dramatic and complex period in its history. Her image became synonymous with the generation of Israel’s founders and with determined national leadership.
