“Rigoletto” is an opera in three acts composed by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, based on Victor Hugo’s play “Le roi s’amuse” (The King Amuses Himself).
The opera premiered on March 11, 1851, at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
Together with La Traviata and Il Trovatore, it forms Verdi’s “popular trilogy.”
