Two Rare Yiddish Zionist Newspapers – Paris, 1947–1948
A highly important pair of original Yiddish Zionist newspapers, “Di Zionistische Stimme” (La Voix Sioniste), printed in Paris (47, rue de Chabrol, 10th arrondissement), a center of Jewish publishing activity in post-war Europe.
The first issue is dated December 3, 1947, published days after the UN Partition Plan.
Main headline (Yiddish): “אַל אונדזער ייִדישן פֿאָלק!”
Translation: “To Our Jewish People!”
The issue includes reports on the UN decision, reactions across the Jewish world, and political analysis. A central visual linking 1897–1947 symbolizes the journey from Herzl’s vision to its realization.
The second issue is dated May 14, 1948, the day of the establishment of the State of Israel.
Main headline (Yiddish): “אַל אונדזער ייִדישן פֿאָלק — די אומאָפּהענגיקייט איז דערקלערט!”
Translation: “To Our Jewish People – Independence Has Been Declared!”
It contains dramatic coverage of the declaration of the State of Israel, reports from Palestine, and reflections on the historic moment, alongside a portrait of Theodor Herzl.
These newspapers were intended for Yiddish-speaking Jewish readers in France and across post-war Europe, including survivors and displaced communities.
Together, they form a powerful documentary sequence—from international recognition to the birth of the Jewish state.
