Rare and magnificent solid silver Hanukkah lamp, dated by Farkash Gallery’s professional identification to Eastern Europe, c. 1920s.
Handmade with repoussé decoration. According to the gallery, the entire lamp is made of solid silver, with pure-gold-plated elements. The lamp bears an 800 hallmark, a mark characteristic of Eastern European silverwork and the silver standard used in the 1920s. A rich architectural design: a crown flanked by lions, the Tablets of the Law with excerpts of the Ten Commandments in Hebrew, an oval plaque bearing the Hanukkah candle-lighting blessing, twisted columns, floral ornaments, and motifs of the Twelve Tribes and the Temple pillars. Eight oil cups, with a shamash and an oil jug.
Left uncleaned to preserve the natural silver patina and authentic look. Cleaning is available at the buyer’s request.
A similar Hanukkah lamp is held in the collection of the Jewish Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. The comparison does not establish the maker, origin or date of the lamp offered here.
Farkash Gallery guarantees the lamp as 100% authentic. It is accompanied by the gallery’s original certificate of authenticity.
