While the Jews accepted the plan with joy and dance, the Arabs declared war.

Our people survived without a homeland for two thousand years. The partition decision was the last and decisive international justification that empowered us to declare the establishment of a home for the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. Today, we continue to fight for our identity, culture, and physical existence in our homeland the Land of Israel.

On November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly approved the ‘Partition Plan’ establishment of two states in British Palestine – Jewish and Arab – with economic union and international management of Jerusalem and the holy places. After the decision was made, crowds of Jews took to the streets to celebrate. Simultaneously, the Arab residents of the country initiated armed attacks, marking the beginning of the Israeli War of Independence.

Even before the vote, an attempt was made to appease the Arabs by offering them additional territory from the land designated for the Jewish state. However, they rejected this offer and continued to deny the Jews the right to their ancestral homeland. The majority still hold this view to this day.
