โš”๏ธ Description

An exceptionally powerful Israeli War of Independence poster created by Moshe Vorobczyk, one of the founding fathers of Israeli graphic design.
This historic poster embodies the dramatic transformation of a people โ€” from the ashes of the Holocaust to the rebirth of national independence.

In the lower part appears an authentic Holocaust-era photograph of Jewish victims standing in despair. Above them, a determined Israeli soldier advances forward, rifle in hand, his helmet marked with the Star of David. Behind him, tanks and aircraft move in unison against a blazing yellow sky โ€” symbolizing the dawn of a new nation.

The inscription reads:
โ€œBehind us: Labor and Youth.
Before us: Independence and Freedom.
This is the Battle!โ€

A declaration of collective rebirth, courage, and purpose โ€” capturing the spirit of 1948: From Holocaust to Revival.

๐ŸŽจ Artistic and Historical Importance

Moshe Vorobczyk (b. Poland) was among the first artists to shape Israelโ€™s national visual identity. Trained in the European modernist tradition, he merged photomontage, bold typography, and symbolic minimalism into a new visual language of resilience and hope.

This poster was created at the height of the war and became a defining image of Israelโ€™s struggle for statehood โ€” both as art and as national message.

The work was exhibited in two major museum retrospectives:

  • Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Israel

  • Centre Pompidou, Paris

Both institutions recognized it as a modernist masterpiece, elevating it from propaganda to fine art โ€” a universal icon of freedom, rebirth, and design innovation.

๐Ÿงพ Collectible Details
