Simchat Beit HaShoeivah (Jewish feast of water-drawing) and celebrations of the Decade of Israel in the Yavneh Group 1958
Simchat Beit Hashoeva is an ancient Jewish custom that took place during the Sukkot holiday in preparation for the pumping of water for the mitzvah of drawing water into the Temple. Throughout the year, wine was offered on the altar with the sacrifices offered, and on the only seven days of Sukkot, water was added. On weekdays, the water was accompanied by a series of especially happy ceremonies called “Simchat Beit Hashoeva”. They lasted all night and ended with the pumping of water from the Shiloah spring and their placement on the altar in the morning.
