A rare and powerful vintage Israeli theater poster from the groundbreaking 1967 production of “Marat/Sade” by Peter Weiss, staged at Haifa Theater.
This provocative play, whose full title is “The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade”, explores the clash of revolution and philosophy, madness and control, art and politics — themes that resonated strongly in 1960s Israel.
The bold graphic design, with its blood-red splashes and distressed layout, captures the intense spirit of the play. A striking example of Israeli modernist theater design, and a true collector’s item for lovers of drama, history, and design.
