Original 1974 Vintage Poster – Jimmy Smith & His Band
This poster is a rare, historical collectible from 1974, preserved in very good condition, featuring jazz legend Jimmy Smith ahead of his historic performance in Israel.
Smith (1928–2005), known by the title appearing on the poster as the “King of the Electric Organ,” is considered a revolutionary who transformed the Hammond B-3 organ into a leading solo instrument in the jazz world. He was one of the founders of the “Soul Jazz” genre, blending jazz, blues, gospel, and rhythm and blues with tremendous virtuosity. His unique playing technique—creating complex, rapid basslines with his feet on the organ pedals alongside dizzying hand improvisations—made him sound like an entire band all on his own. His musical influence extends far beyond jazz and continues to resonate today in funk, rock, and hip-hop.
The poster’s classic 70s design features a vibrant orange background, bold typography in Hebrew and English (“The greatest organ player and jazz singer Jimmy Smith and his band”), and a black-and-white photograph of the artist in action at the keyboards. The bottom section includes a blank white frame, originally designed for the local printing of performance details (date and location). This original and unique piece is now available as part of the Farkash Gallery vintage poster collection, making it a perfect addition for archives, collectors, and lovers of culture and music.
