A rare and humorous collectible from the golden age of Israeli theater – this is an original promotional poster for the satirical stage production “The Good Soldier Švejk” starring Meir Margalit, one of Israel’s most iconic actors.
The play is based on the famous satirical novel by Jaroslav Hašek, originally published in Czechoslovakia in the 1920s. It tells the story of Švejk, a seemingly naïve soldier who constantly finds himself in absurd situations during World War I, cleverly exposing the foolishness of the military and bureaucratic systems with biting humor.
This Hebrew adaptation was translated by Avigdor Hameiri and directed by Israel Gurion. It became a standout success on the Israeli stage. The poster is illustrated in a vivid, caricature style by renowned graphic artist M. Aryeh, capturing the comic spirit of the play.
A unique piece of Israeli cultural history, perfect for collectors of vintage posters and lovers of classic theater.
