Description:
An extremely rare and authentic Zionist poster from 1925 (Hebrew year תרפ”ו), published in Jerusalem by the Local Committee of Keren Hayesod.
The poster marks November 2nd – the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration – as “our historic day,” and calls upon the Jewish community of Jerusalem to gather for a celebratory event marking the launch of the Keren Hayesod fundraising campaign for the upcoming year.
Prominently featured are the names of key community leaders, including Rabbi Z. Gold and K. Solomon, who were among the speakers. The design includes classic Hebrew typography and a decorative border featuring Stars of David, symbolizing the national-religious character of the era.
This original broadside is linen-backed for preservation, a professional archival technique used for vintage paper items.
On November 2, 1917, British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour issued a formal statement declaring that “His Majesty’s Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.”
The Balfour Declaration became one of the most pivotal documents in modern Jewish history, representing the first significant international recognition of Jewish national aspirations. It laid the groundwork for later resolutions at the San Remo Conference, the League of Nations Mandate, and ultimately the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
In the pre-state Yishuv (Jewish community in Palestine), November 2nd was commemorated each year with national events and gatherings celebrating this diplomatic turning point.
