Vintage 1948 Brazilian Butterfly Wing Art – Commemorating the Establishment of the State of Israel – Framed
A rare and historically significant 1948 Brazilian butterfly wing art plaque, created to commemorate the establishment of the State of Israel. Beautifully handcrafted using real butterfly wings beneath glass, the artwork displays the Flag of Israel, the official State Emblem (Menorah), and a scenic view of Rio de Janeiro, symbolizing the friendship between Brazil and the newly established State of Israel.
The natural iridescence of the butterfly wings creates brilliant shades of blue, purple, and gold that shift beautifully with changing light. The artwork is preserved in its original carved wooden frame.
This piece carries special historical significance. Brazil was among the 33 nations that voted in favor of the United Nations Partition Plan (UN Resolution 181) on November 29, 1947, helping pave the way for the creation of the State of Israel. Brazilian diplomat Oswaldo Aranha, President of the United Nations General Assembly at the time, played a pivotal role in facilitating the historic vote and is widely recognized for his contribution to the establishment of Israel. This plaque was produced in 1948, making it a remarkable contemporary tribute to that historic event.
