Israel’s 77th Independence Day – Rare Collection of Independence Day Posters

This week, we celebrate the 77th Independence Day of the State of Israel.
On the 5th of Iyar, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first Prime Minister, proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel and the end of the British Mandate. This year marks 77 years since Israel’s establishment.

Ben-Gurion’s declaration was made in the midst of the War of Independence, which broke out following the rejection by Arab states and the Arab Committee of the United Nations Partition Plan, approved in November 1947.

Thus, on Friday, May 14, 1948, at the Dizengoff House in Tel Aviv, David Ben-Gurion read aloud the Declaration of Independence—and signed it together with the members of the People’s Council The declaration recounts the history of the Jewish people, its struggle to renew its national life, and the international recognition of our right to do so.
