Jewish Films In Hollywood

Jewish Americans, many of whom were recent immigrants, were some of the founders of Hollywood’s key studios such as MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer), Paramount (Adolph Zukor), and Universal (Carl Laemmle). When movies were introduced in the late 1890s, these Jewish American entrepreneurs succeeded; motion pictures were widely popular, and on top of it had no language barrier.

Eventually, the first generation of Jewish American studio anchors retired or passed away, their successors faced a changing industry. By the 1960s’ Hollywood Studios were mostly owned by big corporations, making fewer films and more expensive films at greater financial risk.

Nevertheless, the Jewish founders left their mark with the culture they created enduringly popular movies that emphasize what’s shared in American and Jewish values.
