Vintage Israeli Poster – Ama Soap by Shamen Company 1950s
Shamen Company, Haifa | 1950s–60s
“Ama for silk • wool • kitchenware – for cleaning the home”
A rare original advertising poster for Ama — the iconic Israeli liquid cleaner produced by the Shamen Company (Haifa) in the late 1950s or early 1960s.
Size: 42 × 63 cm
Back Then, “Ama” was a Cleaning Product That Changed Israeli Homes. In the days when solid soap blocks were soaked and scraped for dishwashing, the Shamen company introduced Ama, a liquid formula soap that modernized household cleaning across Israel. Marketed to Israeli housewives as the smart, modern choice.
Its catchy slogan:
“Every woman chooses Ama – every woman knows why”
and its playful logo — a small-bodied woman with a large head — made the brand instantly recognizable in homes across the country.
From Dishes to Delicates
Building on its success, Ama introduced Ama Textile — a delicate hand-washing powder for silk, wool, and fine fabrics. As Israeli fashion in the 1960s moved away from uniform, utilitarian clothing toward more refined and delicate textiles, Ama Textile met the needs of a changing generation of women.
