About Ze’ev Jabotinsky and the Struggle for His Reinterment: One of the most prominent and influential leaders of the Zionist movement, the visionary and founder of Revisionist Zionism, the Betar youth movement, and the Irgun (Etzel). Jabotinsky passed away in August 1940 in the United States and was buried in a New York cemetery. In his famous will, he instructed that his remains be brought to the Land of Israel only by the “order of a Jewish government.”

The path to fulfilling his will was fraught with difficulties: for many years, Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, adamantly refused to approve the transfer of his remains, due to deep historical, political, and ideological rivalry. The public struggle to bring him to Israel lasted for years, and only in 1964, following a change in leadership and Levi Eshkol taking office as Prime Minister, was the long-awaited approval granted. The reinterment of Jabotinsky (along with the remains of his wife, Johanna) at Mount Herzl was a deeply moving historical event that symbolized closure and a significant step toward national reconciliation in Israel.
